Terms of Use

1. Who these terms are between

Cathedra is an iPhone application published by Remzi Atasagun Poyrazoğlu (“we”, “us”). These terms govern your use of the app and of cathedra.study.

By installing or using the app you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.

2. What the app is

Cathedra records audio, transcribes it on your device using Apple's speech recognition, and stores the result together with a timetable you enter yourself. It is a study tool. It is not a legal record, not a medical or accessibility device, and not a substitute for attending or understanding a lecture.

3. Your responsibility when recording other people

Recording a lecture captures another person's voice. Whether you may do that is decided by the law where you are and by your institution's rules, not by us and not by the app.

You are responsible for knowing those rules and for following them. You must not publish, share or otherwise distribute a recording of someone who has not agreed to it. We provide the tool; the permission is yours to obtain.

4. Accuracy

Transcription is automatic and will contain errors, especially with accents, technical terms and poor room acoustics. The original audio is kept for exactly this reason and is the record; the transcript is a convenience.

Answers, summaries, quizzes and translations produced by Cathedra AI are generated by a language model and can be wrong, incomplete or misleading. Check anything that matters against the recording. Do not rely on them for an examination, an assessment or any decision that matters.

5. Academic integrity

Your institution's rules on recording, on note-sharing and on the use of AI tools apply to you and not to us. Using Cathedra in a way that breaks them is your responsibility alone.

6. Subscriptions

Cathedra AI is sold as an auto-renewing subscription, in two tiers and two lengths. There are two places to buy it — in the app through the Apple App Store, or on this website — and the price is the same in both. Where you bought it decides who you deal with afterwards, so the rest of this section is in two halves.

**Bought in the app.** Payment is charged to your Apple Account on confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and Apple charges the renewal within 24 hours of the period ending. You manage and cancel it in your Apple Account settings, not with us; deleting the app does not cancel it. Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue one, because the payment never reaches us.

**Bought on this website.** The seller is Paddle, not us: Paddle.com Market Limited for buyers outside the United States and Canada, and Paddle's US or Canadian company for buyers there. Paddle is the merchant of record — it issues the invoice, collects any tax due where you live, and the purchase itself is a contract between you and Paddle under their buyer terms at paddle.com/legal/buyer-terms. The subscription renews automatically until you cancel it, which you can do at any time from the link in your receipt or from your account page here; cancelling is never harder than subscribing was.

**Refunds for a subscription bought on this website.** Within 14 days of a payment, write to support@cathedra.study and you get that payment back in full, for any reason or none — using Cathedra in the meantime does not cost you the right. After 14 days you can cancel whenever you like and keep the AI features until the period you have already paid for runs out; what is left of that period is not refunded. Paddle, as the seller, has its own buyer terms covering the same ground; where they give you more than this does, they win.

Where a free trial is offered it applies to the yearly plans only and lasts 7 days. Any unused part of a free trial is forfeited when you buy the subscription it belongs to.

One subscription belongs to one student, and it is the same subscription wherever you use it. Sign in to the same account on the phone and on this website and the AI features work on both, whichever of the two sold it to you.

7. Changes to prices and to plans

We may change prices and what a plan includes. A price change to a subscription you already hold takes effect only after Apple has told you and, where Apple's rules require it, only if you agree. A change never applies to a period you have already paid for.

8. Fair use of Cathedra AI

Cathedra AI is subject to a monthly ceiling for each subscription, set high enough that ordinary study never reaches it. It exists so that automated or abusive use cannot run up an unbounded bill. If you ever meet it the app tells you, and the allowance returns at the start of the next calendar month.

You must not resell access, share your account or credentials, or use the AI features through anything other than the app and cathedra.study.

9. Your licence

We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. You may not copy, decompile, reverse-engineer or redistribute the app except where the law says you may despite this term.

10. Your content

Your recordings, transcripts, notes and timetable are yours. We claim no ownership of them and no licence over them beyond what it takes to show them back to you.

Without an account we do not hold them: they live on your device and in your own iCloud. With an account, a copy of your courses, lectures, transcripts and questions — never the audio — is kept with the account so that you can read them and ask Cathedra AI at cathedra.study; deleting the account deletes that copy. When you use an AI feature, the relevant text is passed through our server to the AI provider so that your question can be answered. The privacy policy describes both in full.

11. Our content

The app, this site, the name Cathedra, and their design and code remain ours. Nothing in these terms transfers them to you.

12. Availability

The app is provided as it is. We do not promise that it is free of defects, that transcription will succeed on any given recording, or that the AI features will be available without interruption. Third-party services the AI features depend on can change or stop, and if that happens we will say so.

We may stop offering the AI features. If we do, any subscription period already paid for will be refunded pro rata — through Apple if you bought it there, or by us through Paddle if you bought it here — or allowed to run to its end.

13. Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost study time, for examination outcomes, or for any loss arising from an inaccurate transcript or an inaccurate AI answer. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you have paid us for the subscription in the twelve months before the claim.

14. Ending it

You may stop using the app at any time by deleting it. A subscription bought in the app is cancelled in your Apple Account settings; one bought on this website is cancelled from the link in your receipt or from your account page here. You may delete your account at any time, in the app or at cathedra.study, which deletes everything the account holds. We may end your access to the AI features or to your account if you break these terms, and will refund any unused paid period if we do.

15. Apple

Apple is not a party to these terms and has no obligation to provide support for the app. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these terms and may enforce them against you. Where these terms conflict with the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, Apple's terms govern the purchase.

16. Changes to these terms

We may change these terms. The current version is always at cathedra.study/terms with the date it was written. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it; if you do not, stop using the app.

17. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the Netherlands, where we are established. If you use Cathedra as a consumer, this does not take away the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in, and you may bring a claim in the courts there as well as in the Netherlands.
